Discuss your symptoms with your doctor or nurse and ask which ones you should report. Certain urinary or bladder alterations, such as changes in the color or smell of your urine induced by certain forms of chemotherapy, may be normal. Your medical team will establish what is causing your symptoms and advise you on how to feel better. Drink plenty of water. Most people require at least 8 cups of liquids every day in order for their urine to be light yellow or clear. Anything that can aggravate bladder troubles should be avoided. Caffeine, alcoholic beverages, spicy foods, and tobacco products are examples. Keep urinary tract infections at bay. Your doctor or nurse will discuss measures to reduce your chances of acquiring a urinary tract infection with you. They may include frequent bathroom visits, wearing cotton underwear and loose-fitting slacks, learning about safe and hygienic catheterization techniques, having showers rather than baths, and consulting your nurse before using products such as creams or lotions around your genital area.
